New Release! "Moon-filled starless night,
Shadows move on silver mist.
I find you in light."
An arc, suggesting an enormous moon, frames a man and woman who stand on a fog-shrouded landscape. Bathed in light, they gaze upon each other. A romantic fantasy, Moon Shadows is a visual metaphor about the entrancing power of moonlight as a catalyst for romance.
Sculptural features:
We see moon imagery in the overall shape of this piece as well as in the rough, pitted lunar landscape. The material of acrylic is uniquely suited to suggest the silvery quality of moonlight. An overhead moon is suggested by the smaller curved form immediately above the man's head. This concave plane also gives a bird's eye, miniature view of the whole.
The arcing curved, polished surface and the flat polished planes offer many views and reflections of both figures—insights into their world and relationship. As the sculpture is rotated on a pedestal, the reflection of the lunar landscape fills the space behind them. Michael often uses this contrast in texture as a metaphor for the pull and distractions of the world that his couples overcome by the strength of their romantic attachment.
