More Information: In the recent Scorsese film, Shine the Light, both Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards are individually asked "which of you is the better guitarist?" To which Keith gave an answer that may best explain the point Sebastian Kruger makes when articulating his latest release, The Guitarists - Performing Keith and Performing Ronnie. Keith (snickering after being told that Ronnie said 'of course I am', followed by a cheeky schoolboy grin) replied "Well the truth is, neither of us are very good... But together we are ten times better then any other guitarist." Practicing on stage and in the studio for thirty plus years, with what Keith and Ronnie refer to as their "Ancient Form of Weaving", they have conjured a musical force that is incomparable to anything that has been heard before or that is likely to be heard again. This is the very thing that Sebastian Kruger has captured in this fantastic diptych. He has offered us two amazing works describing both of these rare talents as the giants in music that they are. Not bookends, but artists that are unique in every way. But much like the men themselves, these two works of art when placed together, create something much more then the sum of their parts. For anyone who has experienced this duo first hand, it's the strike of a perfect chord, taken in on a pure visceral level. |
