The piece was commissioned by a wife for her spouse's retirement; the surprise gift remained intact for many years until Thomas showed up at the retirement party with the painting in hand. The charcuterie plate that is visible in the background (the first time Thomas has included food in one of his releases), is part of their nightly unwinding ritual.
