Vladimir Kush
Vladimir Kush was born in Russia, in a small one-story wooden house on the northern edge of Moscow, where in patriarchal times Russian Tsars were engaged in falconry. Vladimir Kush's career as an artist began when he was a child of 3 or 4. Vladimir Kush father was a scientist, but everyone on his side of the family used to draw all the time. Vladimir Kush remembers how in the long winter evenings he used to sit on his father's lap finishing his drawings: boy running on skis, an old man walking with the cane... Art school was a world of a new inspiration for Vladimir Kush. He learned much about the famous Renaissance painters, impressionists, post-impressionists, and contemporary artists. Here Vladimir Kush painted his first surreal picture. When Vladimir Kush was 18, he entered into a mandatory two-year stint of military service. After six months of infantry training, the commander of Vladimir Kush's unit decided that better use could be made of Vladimir Kush painting murals and big canvases.
His father's influence was enormous. He said that in ancient Greece, art and math were considered alike. A mathematician, his father taught Vladimir Kush that the plot of a painting must be like a code for solving a task, and as such, must be crystal clear to capture the essence of a subject.
Vladimir Kush had a successful show in Germany in 1990 with two other Russian Artists, then flew to Los Angeles. This was a beginning of his American odyssey.
