An Evening in Rome is a spectacular composition of St. Peter's Basilica, as seen from Ponte Umberto on the Tiber River. In his own unmistakable way, Alexei has captured the view in his typical dramatic style, surely to captivate even the most sophisticated collector. For those familiar with Rome, the cylindrical structure on the right is Castel St. Angelo. It was originally commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian (75-138 A.D.) as a mausoleum for him and his family. Later on, it was used by the popes as a fortress and castle. Surprisingly, it was once the tallest building in Rome.
