Who is Kendrick, Cowdery

Kendrick Cowdery is a retired educator with a Master’s degree in Arts Technology and a Bachelor’s in Industrial Education, both from Illinois State University. Now based at the Manitou Springs Art Center in Colorado, he devotes his time to his own creative pursuits, working from what he calls his creative sanctuary. There, he channels his passion and expertise into imaginative works that invite viewers into a world where art, technology, and creativity converge.

Inspired by the intricate beauty of arts and crafts, art deco, art nouveau, and other modern styles, Kendrick designs and builds luminaries using a laser cutter as his primary tool. With the precision of Adobe Illustrator, he brings his concepts to life—fusing traditional craftsmanship with contemporary technology.

His work is focused on blending artistry and precision to create pieces that illuminate spaces with elegance. Each luminary begins with hand-drawn sketches and evolves into detailed vector illustrations, ultimately becoming intricate laser-cut designs. By incorporating artisanal papers for color and texture, he constructs sconces, table lamps, and other accent lighting that are both functional and visually captivating.
